Lloyds mobile banking

For many of us, life feels busier every year, yet bank branch opening hours stay the same.

To help address this, Lloyds Banking Group aspired to take the bank to the customer and provide a more flexible and dynamic banking services. Lloyds said: “Speaking face-to-face with a dedicated adviser about your mortgage needs can be invaluable, but we know it can be difficult to travel to your local branch at a suitable time.”

Designworks industrial design team collected and analysed key insights to better understand the potential use cases and end user requirements, such as mortgage and financial advice.

Developed in collaboration with Box Technologies, Designworks created a new mobile solution to enable Lloyds’ banking team to offer flexible appointments. The system combined iPads, card readers, wireless keyboards and styluses allowing for home or video appointments or meetings at the customer’s workplace; providing increased flexibility and customer engagement.

Devising a system that protects the various devices in the lightest way became a crucial requirement of the industrial design. A protective iPad case with integrated kickstand allowed the mobile app to be used in both orientations and was then combined with the other devices in an elegant folio carry case.

Design thinking allowed for an innovation-led process to identify this opportunity and understand how it could be integrated into Lloyds Banking Group’s core business across the whole group including Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland and Halifax.
