Safe design has not radically changed for a considerable time, Gunnebo were looking to change this with an innovative product that would disrupt the market and enhance the Gunnebo brand.
Designworks worked closely with Gunnebo to understand and analyse the limitations of traditional safe construction methods. Our team identified that the consumer perception of the steel case providing security was actually unfounded – the material barrier that fills the case is in fact the real provider of security.
Identifying this misconception was the first step in creating a truly innovative design, and using our vast knowledge of manufacturing techniques and materials, we came up with a solution – replacing the metal enclosure with a rotationally moulded polyethylene one. By using this process, the design team suddenly had huge freedom to explore new opportunities that had previously been unthinkable. The Securepod solution utilises the latest barrier materials and a reinforced, over-moulded mesh construction that is completely unique and ground breaking resulting in its Eurograde 0 safe certification.
The design won praise and recognition through a prestigious Red Dot Award in 2009, and continues to be an example of Gunnebo’s innovative processes and willingness to disrupt the market with new products.
