HORNBY
Warner Bros Scalextric

Amongst the many projects we’ve done with Hornby for Scalextric, this must be one of the most fun - the design and development of vehicles for some of Warner Bros’ classic tentpole properties, Looney Tunes and Wacky Races.

For Looney Tunes, the characters needed custom vehicles designed for them, so what better for characters from the mid-20th century, than American hot rods. Alongside the colourways, each character had number plates and decals to differentiate their vehicles from a single form factor.

When it came to the Wacky Races, one of the challenges was to make the vehicles from the show (that truly are ‘wacky’) both manufacturable and road-worthy, whilst keeping the distinctive aesthetic that fans love. In the case of Dick Dastardly’s Mean Machine for example, it had to accommodate two passengers of a good size, whilst balanced and not likely to collide with other cars.
