Sock-it to them!

With all the political uncertainty of late we could all do with a little Christmas cheer. The sell-out, run away success of The Sock Game is proof that family games and Christmas are a great combination.

Originally a ‘home made’ favourite conceived by the father of two brothers Jono and Nick from Surrey, the legend that’s become the Sock Game has remained a Christmas staple for played by generations over many years.

Two years ago the brave move was made to launch a Kickstarter campaign, such was the belief in the idea. With imagination, creative marketing and a great deal of hard work the humble beginnings of Greenwich market have grown into the must-have game of the year 2018, selling out in all major stockists and even changing hands for 5 times it’s original price on the web. This story demonstrates two key components when considering new product development - namely belief in your product and an acute focus on simplicity.

With such a great concept as a starting point how could the brothers go wrong? Well, they might have approached a major toy manufacturer and become embroiled in big company politics or tried to fund the start up themselves and never progressed beyond that market stall in Greenwich. Crowd funding doesn’t fit all start-up models, thankfully for the brothers on this occasion its paved the way to an award winning success story.

As a developer of games (among many other products) Designworks would like to congratulate the team at The Sock Game and wish them every success in the future.
